The ETTER Engineering Company was founded in Hamden, Conn. in 1940 by Herbert Etter, Sr. Although the focus of the company has changed with the times, its target has always revolved around the application and control of gas fired process heating.

The company originated as a Manufacturer’s Sales Representative firm, concentrating on natural gas equipment including burners, boosters, regulators and meters, controls, flame safeguards, boilers, ovens, and furnaces. Over the years, the company evolved from operating as a representative to become a multi-line stocking distributor with related manufacturing capabilities.

In the 1940’s the company had a Sales Office in Boston, and later established offices in Waltham and Woburn, Mass while maintaining its headquarters in Hamden, CT.

In the 1980’s ETTER made a transition to serve the market better by adding a manufacturing operation in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. ETTER could now offer integrated solutions resolving client’s combustion challenges by offering a systematic approach in lieu of just parts.

In 1990, the company consolidated its operations and moved to its current headquarters in Cheshire, Conn. In the late 1990’s, ETTER attained Certification from Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) as a UL 508 Control Panel Fabricator to strengthen its custom control offerings. Industrial Control Panels became a significant percentage of the company’s business volume.

ETTER has historically served the Northeast, providing gas combustion parts and systems to a myriad of markets and applications. The company’s client base includes small to large industrial users, small to large commercial users, restaurants and other business proprietors, and even homeowners.

ETTER also designs and builds both standard and custom gas fired and electric IR systems for numerous markets. Applications include powder and paint coating lines, curing of glues and adhesives, shrink wrapping labels on product, drying magnetic strips on mass produced electronic tickets, and much more.

In 2005 the company broadened its operations by starting a Service Group of engineers and technicians. ETTER could now provide the parts or systems required to meet a client’s needs, and install, start up and routinely service the equipment to keep them running at their optimal performance.

After extended success over a half century in the gas booster industry, ETTER has begun manufacturing its own UL-Listed Natural Gas Booster – the ENGB (ETTER Next Generation Booster), which was officially launched in February of 2009. The product has already generated a great deal of buzz within the industry, and ETTER is proud to say that it’s an ENGB that will provide the fueling capabilities for the Zamboni® at Rockefeller Center starting in mid-February 2009.

In February of 2010, ETTER moved to a new, much larger facility in Bristol, CT. This move was directly influenced by the success of the company's new gas booster product, as well as the overall growth of the company.

Current President of ETTER Engineering Tom Etter is the third generation in his family to oversee the company’s operations, having taken over from his father, Herb Jr. in 2008.
