NFPA 86 – Combustion Safety Audits

While safety is everybody’s business, the focus on safety and disaster prevention sometimes gets put on the back burner.  Work priorities, busy production schedules and a overworked maintenance staff can de-prioritize your safety program. NFPA codes and standards exist to help companies prevent accidents and disasters and to protect your employees.  At ETTER, we use the NFPA codes and standards in our Combustion Safety Audit program.  We’ll complete a detailed audit of your  facility’s combustion systems and we’ll provide a report documenting of our findings and making recommendations for bringing non-compliant equipment into compliance with current combustion safety standards. What is NFPA?  Founded in 1896, NFPA grew out of a meeting on sprinkler standards. The Bylaws of the Association that were first established in 1896 embody the…

ETTER – An American Growth Story – Part #5

In Parts 1-4, we talked about Goal Setting, Building a Plan, Setting your KPI’s and Creating Culture and Building your Team.  The fifth part of building a great business is building a system of accountability to ensure that you stay on track and keep focused on the plan. Building an accountability system is key to your success.  In my experience, this is where most planning efforts fail.  You go off to a strategic planning session, make great progress, develop a plan and then fail to put the accountability and discipline in place to ensure the plan is achieved.  At ETTER, we hold Leadership meetings twice a month and they are built around accountability to the plan.  In addition, we hold quarterly company meetings where the strategic…

Pit Furnace Overhaul and Upgrade

Is that really going to fit through the door? Just barely! A nearly 10 foot wide retort pit furnace recently made its way  with a “wide load” escort from the Connecticut shoreline up to ETTER’s facility. Expert riggers gently coaxed it through our door with inches to spare! With it now safely inside the building, ETTER’s expert team will go to work re-lining the furnace, replacing the cement floor, and upgrading the gas valves and controls to use pulse firing for a more efficient distribution of heat, which is a critical aspect of high-tech manufacturing today! Here at ETTER Engineering, this is just one of many ways we can apply our vast knowledge of the Process Heating & Combustion industry. You’ve seen the “before” photo, now…
