Andrea is a Junior Mechanical Engineer who has been with ETTER for nine months. This interview highlights that today is “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” and it is the middle of “National Engineering Week.” Below are some questions we asked Andrea to find out more about her!

Why did you want to be an Engineer? When I was a child I had an invention book, and I would write down my invention ideas and I wanted to know how things worked and know how the world works; plus I really like math.

What is you favorite thing about being an Engineer? Coming up with solutions to problems and testing them out.

Did being a female Mechanical Engineering Major ever affect your studies in undergrad? It didn’t affect my studies but I had a different experience than if I was male.

What would you say to little girls who show an interest in science? I would say that school doesn’t teach you that women played a significant role in the development of today’s technology. They first developed the software that has evolved into everything we do today.

What is the next invention the world needs? A way to store energy more efficiently.

What are your hobbies? Longboarding, snowboarding, rowing and drumming.

Who is the best historical figure? Ada Lovelace – the founder of the concept of a personal computer.

If you could teach a class on anything, what would it be? Rowing.

Who are your favorite video game characters? Link, Princess Zelda and Pikachu.
