Digestor Gas Booster

The Challenge:

The opportunities to utilize biogas today are becoming more and more common, so when ETTER Engineering was asked to engineer a digestor gas booster system to take advantage of the renewable gas being produced from a municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant in California, the company knew just the right approach to take. With over seven decades of experience designing, building, installing and servicing natural gas boosters, the foray into the burgeoning biogas industry was a natural extension of ETTER’s core gas booster business.

The Solution:

After determining that ETTER met the exacting specification requirements produced by the LAC Sanitation District, ETTER partnered with San Clementebased AHM Associates to provide the municipality with a pair of ETTER ENGB-620 gas boosters constructed from stainless steel. The use of stainless steel was designed to prevent the potentially corrosive gas mixture from eating away at the booster vessel, and provides a lifespan far greater than the competition, who often use epoxycoated carbon steel. The equipment was designed to provide a 53” water column boost over incoming gas pressure, with a maximum capacity of 15,000 cubic feet per hour.

The state of the art ETTER digestor gas boosters were accompanied by two UL-508 labeled gas booster control panels manufactured in ETTER’s 508A approved panel shop. The custom built panels contained motor starters, circuit breakers, inlet gas pressure switch interlocks, all necessary fuses and relays, and step-down transformers and fusing.

ETTER sent a technician to Valencia to assist with the start-up of the booster system as well as operator training. Now up and running, the redundant biogas boosters provide renewable energy to the plant’s two boilers, providing the city As New York City moves farther away from expensive, pollutant-laden heavy oil in favor of natural gas as a fuel source, the number of oil-to-gas conversions will only increase, benefiting business owners and their customers as well as the environment. ETTER Engineering stands poised and ready to service our clients in the 21st century by providing a variety of products to increase efficiency, decrease greenhouse emissions, and provide increased reliability while bringing greater profits to their bottom line.
